Kafka Platform Engineer – Taming the Data River for AI

Location & Hours

• Work Location: México Remote
• Work Hours: You'll be aligned with the US Central Time (CT) zone.
• Travel: Occasional, all-expenses-paid trips to the US to sync up with the team.

What You’ll Do

You’re not just managing servers; you’re the master conductor of our entire data streaming orchestra. This isn't about babysitting logs. It's about architecting, securing, and scaling the central nervous system that powers next-generation AI and automation platforms.

• Build & Tune the Engine: You'll architect, deploy, and maintain our on-prem Confluent Kafka clusters. Your job is to make them so robust and performant that they handle massive data streams without breaking a sweat. Think of it as building a data superhighway, not a quiet country road.
• Be the Digital Bouncer: You'll implement Fort Knox-level security. We’re talking SSL/TLS encryption, fine-grained ACLs, and RBAC to ensure only the right applications get past the velvet rope. You decide who gets in and who gets bounced.
• Become a Data Whisperer: When a data stream hiccups, you're the first responder. Wielding tools like Prometheus and Grafana, you’ll diagnose issues before they become full-blown meltdowns. Expecting perfect system health 100% of the time is like expecting a cat to file its own tax return—it’s not gonna happen. Your job is to find the problem before anyone else does.
• Engineer for Armageddon: You will design and implement our "break glass in case of emergency" plan. This means robust backups, seamless disaster recovery, and flawless failover procedures. Because "downtime" is a four-letter word we don't use around here.
• Automate Everything: You’ll hunt down manual, repetitive tasks and obliterate them with automation. Using tools like Ansible or Terraform, you’ll turn tedious configuration and deployment processes into elegant, push-button solutions.

Tech Stack & Tools

This is the toolkit you'll be using to build and defend our data empire.

• Core: Confluent Platform, Apache Kafka (Brokers, Zookeeper, Connect, Streams)
• Monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana, Confluent Control Center
• Automation & IaC: Ansible, Terraform, Python

Requirements (What We Need)

• 3-5 years of hands-on experience managing production Confluent Kafka clusters, with a strong preference for on-premises environments.
• A rock-solid understanding of distributed systems, high availability (HA), and what to do when things inevitably go sideways.
• Proven expertise in locking down Kafka infrastructure using SSL/TLS, ACLs, and RBAC.
• You’ve built and managed monitoring stacks for Kafka before and can read the metrics like a book.

Nice-to-Have (Bonus Points!)

• Experience using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Ansible to manage Kafka environments.
• A knack for scripting in Python or another language to automate the boring stuff away.
• The ability to explain complex tech to non-tech folks—so your grandma finally understands what you do.
